Vitamin D - are you getting enough?

Are you getting enough Vitamin D? This is one of the things i never really thought about, ..It wasn't until back in 2011 i started to feel not just tired but exhausted, i put it down to my busy lifestyle and lack of sleep  i was jugging two jobs a home and a family..

I started to get really deep bone pain in my pelvis hips and legs, it was so painful and uncomfortable no matter what i was doing....it was constantly there from the moment i woke up till the moment i went to sleep..it also made everyday activities difficult...i started to feel really down about it ...i decided i needed to do something...so i visited my doctor..when i explained my symptoms..the doctor suggested i have a vitamin D blood test..she said new research had come to light and they had realised how much of an important roll vitamin D played in the body.

Anyway my results came back and i had extremely low vitamin D levels, i was put on a high dose of vitamin D for a few months until my levels returned to normal..they did return back to normal and i stopped taking Vitamin D..then a few months later i had another blood test done to see how my levels were.. my levels had dropped down again...so my doctor said i will need to take vitamin D everyday for the rest of my life..i found some really good detailed information  here i never knew not having enough vitamin D could cause me to feel the way i did..i now make sure i keep it topped up..a nice sunny holiday would also do the trick.

Disclosure : this post is based on my own experience, i was not instructed to write anything.

  1. Interesting post, I watched a programme on tv last year about the rise in cases of rickets in children.....caused by lack of vitamin D. Too many children are spending time indoors watching tv and playing computer games and with mums slapping factor 100 sunblock on our toddlers children are not being exposed to Vitamin D from the sun. I am always careful to allow my children sunblock free time on balance but through the winter I have given vitamin supplements. Vitamin D is also in some vegetables so I encourage those. Great post x

  3. I am on Adcal D3 twice a day, my levels are 23% and should be over 50! I have CFS/ME which accounts for my tiredness but hopefully these tablets will help. #PoCoLo

  7. It's amazing how important vit D is.... I always ensure my boys get a dose without sun cream ...very hard when we hardly have any sun....we as a country are all very low and it's quite a big problem it's just not being highlighted that much by health professionals .

  9. What an interesting post. I never knew Vit D could do all that. Are there any side effects to taking the extra Vit D supplements? It's so hard to get it the natural here!! xx

  10. Very interesting post. I do wonder if all us Brits were tested we would probably find most people are lacking in Vit D slightly due to lack of sun! Glad you got it sorted. Would never had known it causes those symptoms.

  11. A really great post, I have all those symptoms! I found out I was deficient when pregnant and on anti epileptic medication. I'm sure a lot of people are just because of the lack of sun! Great to see its being more widely talked about now.

  12. That's really interesting, I had no idea it caused those symptoms. I was interested that when I had the wee girl last year my doctor told me to make sure I was taking Vit D so that she was getting enough while I was breast feeding... #PoCoLo
